The Prodigy- Smack My Bitch Up:
Throughout this must video the action is shown through a POV camera angle. This angle is used to show one person’s night out and the different places he visits and also the things he consumes. This lead him to bring a girl back to his apartment, however it is at the end of the video in which the viewer is thrown a curveball as when the character looks into the mirror we see that it is a women. They way in which the camera is used throughout the video fools the viewer into thinking that it is a man with things like masculine trainers and visiting strip clubs, as these are things associated with males, but the maker has obviously chosen a style of music video that will confuse the viewer.
Slipknot-Psychosocial:
This is a very dark video set in what looks like an old farm with only fire used as a source of light; this makes the overall feel of the music video much more sinister and scary. Incorporated with Slipknots signature masks the music video is to a certain extent scary. With every new album comes new masks and slow-motion has been used in way that we can have a look at the new masks but somehow the overall pace of the video isn’t lost. This is done by showing the slow-motion piece in parts and breaking it up with some real time action shots, this also keeps the viewer interested. Small clips of other pieces of action separate to what is the majority also leave the viewer wondering, and some of these images are quite hard to see what it is making the viewer want to see it again and find out what it is. Certain images shown evoke emotions like passion, from the colour of the fire.
Avenged Sevenfold-Dear God:
The music video shows some parts of the bands live shows, some footage of the band backstage and also footage of the band playing the song in a studio set and on their tour bus in the form of a real-life video as it shows some of the bands partners. This video has very simple content, but it has been edited and put together in such a way in post production that the viewer doesn’t become bored. All of the live images are taken from their latest tour and all have backstage footage as well as the band outside of their performing lifestyle, which shows a different and more interesting side to the band, in which fans will want to see.
Queens of the Stoneage-Go with the Flow:
The video features the band performing on the back of a truck, which eventually crashes into another truck. This storyline is interspersed with sexual imagery of women, and the car crash can be seen as a metaphor for sex. Flash animation is used over live video, this makes the animation extremely vibrant and eye catching, however it is not overdone as we can still tell what the image is.
Foo Fighters-Long Road to Ruin:
The music video of the song is a comedic spoof of a stereotypical 1970s-era hospital soap opera (General Hospital in particular). As seen in the opening credit sequence, the Foo Fighters portray the actors who in turn portray the show's characters. This video uses stereotypical content through the clothing the characters are seen in which is consistent with the time it is meant to be set, also In what is likely an intentional continuity error, Grohl is clearly in an open-top e-type jaguar, while the crash footage depicts what appears to be a 1990's Porsche. This spoofs the typical ending for most 1970’s soap opera film death scenes.
