Media Treatment

Media:
Treatment for music video:
Artist: Avenged Sevenfold
Song: Brompton Cocktail
For my A2 Music video production I am making a music video for a song called ‘Brompton Cocktail' by Avenged Sevenfold. I have chosen this song as not only is it extremely catchy it also has meaning within its lyrics. This allows me to have a much larger choice when it comes to what content will be in the music video. The song itself is a dark and heavy song which can help me portray the image i am trying to produce.

The content of my music video is based around one main character and his problems with a drink and drug addiction. Using predominantly POV shots we get a 1st person perspective. My music video will appeal to the widespread followers of the band, however by making my music video catchy and interesting it will draw in a wider audience. My video will also appeal to anyone who likes alternative metal and hard rock as a genre. The camera shots that will be used are POV (point of view), however I will use a variety of close ups and mid-shots for reactions of characters. Close up POV will be used for perspective shots to make them believe the character is looking up close. The characters in the video will be wearing casual clothing which can be used to show that they are all friends and are just there to have fun rather than make an impression. The casual clothing also makes the video look more realistic as they will be wearing attire that is popular today.

The main idea for my video uses the lines 'Save me from this life' which can be used to emphasise the characters enemies and problems he has. 'Please dont question why' is used in the chorus and breakdown and i can use to emphasise the characters problems further and it can also be used to show he characters misunderstandings of his own addictions. Also further through the song nearing the end lines like ‘Save me from this life’ is repeated over and over and can be used to show the characters realisation of his enemies and how he is going to try and change. Shots show him ‘out of control’ and drinking everything that’s around him will be used to show the seriousness of his problems. I will also use shot of a group o people playing the song in the same setting as where the party takes place, the setting will still have all of the rubbish and paraphernalia, but it will be in daytime which connotes a new day and a new start in the characters life. Using more shots of the band as song is coming to a close will enforces the idea of the character making a new start as it show contrast between the previous night and what is ahead. As the song is nearing its conclusion lines like ' I believe my sins have been forgiven' are used and can be used to show the characters realisation and change in his life style.

Hard Rock and alternative metal generally has a fast pace within its music and the pace in 'Brompton Cocktail' builds up as the song continues, to keep up with this I will use short frames and pans and along with the POV perspective can give the impression of the events though someone else’s eyes. Short flashes of images can be used to emphasise as people can pick up very brief images and know exactly what it is. Tilts and swaying of the camera will be used whist in the POV perspective portray the idea of being drunk. Also pans can be used to show things like falling leaning against a wall with an arm in the foreground, these shots can be used to emphasise living the characters life for the duration of the music video.
